Non-Meat Protein Sources That You Need To Try Now!

When we think about protein we automatically think about meat. Getting enough protein is important for us to build and maintain muscle, but what’s even more important is having a healthy diet. Eating meat to get your protein is great, it’s needed, but that’s not all that’s needed. Most people may never think about this, but there are so many more sources of protein other than meat, and they taste great! Adding in some non-meat sources to your diet will not only balance your diet out but also add some great flavor to your meals! Lets look at my top 5 favorite non-meat protein sources.

1. Peanuts

Peanuts are great to snack on and have on the side of any meal, and something we don’t learn early on about them, they are an excellent source of protein. They provide as much as 9 grams of protein per ounce. Peanuts make a great pre-workout snack for me to get some extra protein in me. Other benefits of peanuts are they help you not gain unwanted weight and help you stay lean.

2. Beans

Growing up I used to love eating Bean & Cheese Burritos. I loved the taste of beans and didn’t even know how good they are your health. Beans contain many nutrients that help lower your blood pressure, and contain as much as protein as an ounce of steak! Just one cup of beans can provide close to 20% of recommended daily value of protein.

3. Almonds

Another one of my favorite pre-workout snacks, Almonds are what many say are true. You’ll get about 6 grams of protein per ounce and just like we mentioned with beans, these also are good for your heart! This is also a great snack for overweight people looking to lose some body fat. Snack on those almonds!

4. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is great for a quick breakfast for busy mornings getting ready for work. Approximately 5 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber are in half a cup of oats. They may not have a high number of protein but you still get some protein starting your day with breakfast to help you get going. Other benefits of oatmeal are they contain nutrients such as magnesium and zinc.

5. Beyond Meat Plant Based

A popular brand for all plant-based products, these will make you feel like you’re eating real meat! They started with vegan burgers and expanded to make ground meat, sausage, meatballs and even chicken, all plant-based. You will get almost the same protein amount as you would with regular meat and also get a good amount of Vitamins and Zinc.
